PRACTICING

A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT

It's easy to play through your assignment and think okay, I've practiced well. In reality, it's how focused and efficient the practice is that determines your progress. Below are some tips to help you get the most out of your practice sessions. 

1.

Do you check your posture and position every time you are about to play? A good set up fixes most coordination issues and will help give you a great technique and sound. 

2.

Are you in tune? Check your notes against an open string. Place all previous fingers down together. 

3.

Are you on time? Use a metronome and make sure you know where every beat falls.

4.

How do you practice? There are two types of practices. Run-throughs and perfectionistic practice. Both are important. 

5.

How do you spend your time? It is better to take breaks or split your practice into two sessions a day rather than try to play everything in one said block. This allows you to maintain
